February – Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’
With glossy evergreen foliage, edged with gold, and beautiful, intensely fragrant flowers, Daphnes odora ‘Aureomarginata’ has something to offer all year round. However, it is in spring that it will bring the most joy to your garden. Deep purple buds open to clusters of pink-white flowers. Blooming usually begins in winter and continues throughout spring. The magnificent, sweet and heady scent will uplift the spirits of anyone who passes by. It is a compact shrub, typically reaching no more than 1.5m, and, as such, it will be as happy in a pot as it will in a border. If you place the pot next to your front door, you can appreciate the intoxicating fragrance every time you come in and out. This Daphne prefers a sheltered position. It can be grown in sun, although it will probably be happiest with a little shade.
